    The GFDRR Labs mission is to foster innovation in disaster risk management through the use of technology and by nontraditional partnerships. The goal of GFDRR Labs is to mainstream innovation in disaster risk management across all the regions of the World Bank.

    We are looking for a Geospatial expert to join our team as a technical architect and evangelist inside the World Bank. The initial position is a 150 day contract, which will be renewed upon satisfactory performance. This person’s primary responsibilities will be:

    GeoNode Management: Managing and growing the GeoNode platform to serve as the repository for disaster risk information around the world.

    GeoSpatial Tool Mainstreaming: Utilizing geospatial technology for Bank operations i.e. walking papers for community based risk assessments.

    Open Disaster Data Management: Oversee the development of a repository for open disaster data within and external to the Bank.

    Lead Data Crowdsourcing Initiatives: Lead our involvement with communities crowdsourcing exposure data collection (i.e. OpenStreetMap and MapMaker).

    It’s an exciting position with a lot of responsibility, and working with a fantastic team in Washington, DC.

    Post-Doc position for Civil or Earthquake Engineering PHD
    The University of Pavia has opened a two-years post-doc position, funded by the (risk global component) GED4GEM project. GED4GEM is aimed at the realization of a global exposure database including building taxonomy and population data useful for loss estimation using the GEM Risk Engine. His/her role will be related to the definition and implementation of “mapping schemes” such as those in HAZUS and PAGER to global databases available from CIESIN, UN-HABITAT, USGS and other institutions in order to populate the Global Exposure Database.

    GEM and ETH are looking for a Software Engineer to work in a team on the open source software system that is being developed, which computes all aspects of earthquake hazard, risk, and socio-economic impact.
